Finding a Church Home

I am not an advocate of dividing Christianity among denominational lines. Unfortunately, it has been a problem even in the apostles time as we see in Acts chapter 15. In this particular account there was a division amongst the believers from Judea and the apostles Paul and Barnabas from Antioch on how to handle the Gentile believers— should they be circumcised, or should they not be circumcized. There was a sharp division in the Church during the time of the apostles because of this circumcision doctrine. We read about this in Galatians 2, where the apostle Paul even criticized Peter for his hypocrisy for trying to cater to both sides of the argument.

With that said, we are, unfortunately, going to have to live with this division until Christ comes. I spent 12 years in a Baptist Church after leaving the Catholic Church of my youth. I loved my Baptist Church very much, until I came into the revelation of the power and authority in Christ that the Baptist Church was adamant against. I began to see how the Baptist's view of sickness as, at times, being from God to strengthen us, was totally erroneous. This led to my leaving the Baptist Church.

But, please listen to me. I am not telling anyone to leave a particular denomination as I did. You should seek God's leading in any decision you make regarding your Church home. I say that because God may have a purpose for you at a particular Church regarding this doctrinal belief. If you already have a Church home that may not believe in this power and authority through Christ as I discuss it here in my teachings, pray about what to do. If you are seeking God first in your life without the distractions of worldly things going on around you, God will lead you.

With the advent of the internet, it makes it much easier to search for local Churches. Most, if not all Churches have some form of website that will probably have a statement of beliefs or Church doctrine that you can read over to get an idea of the belief of that particular Church. You may also want to visit the Church as a guest for a few weeks— listening to the content of a few sermons or even their praise and worship will give you an indication as to whether this power and authority is evident in the Church. Or, just speak with the Pastor of the Church and ask Him point-blank about the doctrine you are seeking and if his Church reflects it.

In any event, it can take some time before you settle on a Church home that fills your needs. But, it is also something that should not be rushed or compromised on. Chances are there will be some minor points that you may never find agreement on, but that's OK, because just believing in Jesus' name is sufficient to save you to eternal life and to keep you from the death of seeking this worlds ways.
