The Power Behind Your Spirit, Soul, and Body (Part 2)
by Russell J. Schmidt

Romans 8:13... 13) For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

Body and Soul

Let’s take a look at both your body and soul and see how they work against the Holy Spirit after receiving it and what you need to do in order to reverse this effect and get them both in-line with the Holy Spirit to live in the power and authority that is a product of the Holy Spirit.

The body is the easiest part of our being to relate to and understand. It is the physical part of our being that we are born with that is subject to aches and pains, sickness and disease, and the aging process. It comes in all different shapes, sizes, and has the ability to reproduce new life. The Bible describes the physical body as a temporary dwelling for us here on earth. Our physical bodies are not our reality— our spiritual, incorruptible bodies are our reality and what we will spend eternity in.

The soul on the other hand is something that scientists have debated for years— is there, or is there not a soul? And is the soul and the spirit one and the same? Well, the Bible tells us there is definitely a soul— and the soul is a separate entity from the spirit, whether that be the spirit of man or the Holy Spirit of God.

The soul consists of the heart and mind of our being, which incorporates our personality. The soul and the body both, are very much in touch with the physical nature of life. Neither the soul nor the body can, on their own, detect the spiritual realm of good and evil. The mind within the soul can consider the spiritual, but cannot comprehend it. This is because the mind cannot work based on faith, because it needs to have physical evidence to calculate and comprehend something in the physical realm. The spiritual realm is not of the physical realm or dimension, so it cannot be interpreted by the mind. That is, a mind that has not relinquished it’s authority to the Holy Spirit.

The Bible tells us that true faith is a gift from God (Ephesians 2:8 ). Faith that comes from God can only come through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit being separate from the soul and body is the only aspect of your being that will be able to comprehend faith and the spiritual realm. Hebrews 11:1, defines faith as, “...the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Based on that definition, it corroborates my explanation of why the soul and body cannot comprehend faith. If you can’t see, feel, hear, taste, or touch something, it is not comprehendible in the physical realm without spiritual help from the Holy Spirit.

Now, we are created with a spirit of man, a soul, and a physical body. The spirit of man that God has given His creation of man, is corruptible. This spirit of man is susceptible to falling prey to the physical world around us and is easily influenced by our physical bodies and soul. Although this spirit of man is what God created in His image— that’s where the similarities end. Every other aspect of our spirit of man is far from comparable to God.

Why? Because God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are incorruptible— the spirit of man is corruptible. A man prior to being born again, has a corruptible spirit of man, a corruptible soul, and a corruptible physical body. Although the spirit of man is spirit, it also cannot comprehend the spiritual realm, because it has already been corrupted. It will work in unison with both the body and soul.

That is why the only way to understand the spiritual things of God, is if God allows you to. You can try, and try, and try on your own, but you can only consider those things, but you will not be able to comprehend them. 2 Corinthians 4:6, says it this way, “For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” What this verse is saying here is that the only way for man to comprehend the knowledge of God, was for Jesus to be sacrificed, so as to redeem us from this corruptible nature and offer us the incorruptible Holy Spirit, so we may receive and comprehend, through the Holy Spirit, the knowledge of God.

Receiving the Holy Spirit is only the first step in attaining spiritual comprehension. After receiving the Holy Spirit we must recognize the inability of our physical body and soul to accept this incorruptible Holy Spirit of God. Our physical body and soul have been so trained by the physical realm around us, that being the works of the flesh as described in Galatians 5:16-21 , that it does not submit to this new Holy Spirit that now resides in us. They are both use to the spirit of man just accepting what it is told by the body and soul. The Holy Spirit, on the other-hand, will declare the truths of God, which will conflict with a body and soul that is corrupted by the works of the flesh.

They will have competition with the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit will not succumb to this one dimensional thinking of the physical realm only. On the contrary, the Holy Spirit works first in the spiritual realm and second in the physical realm and only according to the truths of God. And the Holy Spirit will prompt your body and soul to do the same, but they will resist, because they work in, and know only the physical realm.

The Holy Spirit will not force you to think in terms of the spiritual, as God gave us the freedom of choice in Deuteronomy 30:19 , so too, does the Holy Spirit allow us to choose what we will believe. Depending upon the severity of our hardness of heart toward the Holy Spirit, it will be the determining factor as to whether we choose to believe the Holy Spirit or continue on leaving it up to our soul and body to determine what is truth in our lives.

Human beings, in general, do not like change— and when you are comfortable with the habits and ways of thinking that are according to the flesh or worldly things, which includes all the wrong religious teachings in our society, our hardness of heart will not let us accept these new truths that flow through the Holy Spirit. We tend to justify things according to what we’ve been taught through man-made religious doctrines, that masquerade as Christianity.

Until we see the error of our ways and are humbled by God, and in my case, that came when I saw two physical healings, one involving my wife and the other involving a physical healing in my own body— it was only then that I was humbled enough to break down those walls of hardness of heart and allowed the Holy Spirit to have authority over my body and soul, to teach this true spiritual knowledge of God.

This is a process that will take time. There’s an expression, you can’t teach an old dog new tricks— well, in some cases you actually can, but it takes a long time for that dog to break all its old developed habits and begin to understand and implement these new tricks. It’s the same with renewing our minds and coordinating our body and soul to relinquish its authority in our lives and allowing the Holy Spirit to now be the determining factor in all the decisions in our lives.

And just as with the dog population, there are people who will not be able to adjust to this new authority of the Holy Spirit— even though they consider themselves Christians, their hardness of heart will keep them from discovering the truths of God. They are so hardened by all that they have been taught in the physical, fleshly world, including man-made religious teachings, that there is no way they can accept these new truths.

Creating a Truce Between the Holy Spirit and Your Body and Soul

This is not an easy task, but one that is imperative if you want God’s best for your life here and now— and one that is well worth the effort. As I already explained, your body and soul will not take kindly to this new authority that you have given over to the Holy Spirit in your life.

They will certainly rebel and try to influence your new decision maker, the Holy Spirit, with old bad habits and understanding, and if you choose to continue to listen to your body and soul, the Holy Spirit will not fight you. You have freedom of choice and the Holy Spirit will not stand in the way of that. But, if you choose the truths that come through the Holy Spirit, I assure you, you will be blessed, blessed, blessed, with God’s promises that are throughout the Bible Let’s take a look at a hypothetical situation to get a better handle on what I am talking about.

Let’s say for example, in the area of spiritual healing— in the physical, spiritual healing is a farce, those who are fleshly with no spiritual understanding, will laugh at the notion of a miraculous spiritual healing. And if they talked with someone who has been healed supernaturally, they will find all kinds of excuses and reasons why it wasn’t a spiritual healing, but just a coincidence— or they just won’t believe you at all.

I know before I was born again, and even for a time after being born again, my hardness of heart would lead me to believe the same thing. I would see healing ministries on television and call them all phony's, thief’s, and money grubbers. Some may have been, but I do know and believe now that God does heal miraculously and many of those ministries are God’s chosen servants and are serving Him faithfully.

You need to establish in your heart that God is a God of healing. How do you do that? Search the Scriptures for all verses regarding supernatural healing— write them down and go over them daily, make them a part of you, memorize the ones that seem to touch you the most. Speak to your heart and mind, that these truths are the truths from God, they are His Word, and you will find that God’s Word has power and authority. Click here for healing verses.

You will do the same for any problem you may have. God new every potential problem that you or any other person could ever possibly encounter. There is no problem that is unique to any man (1 Corinthians 10:13 ).

You will also need to tune out all the negative that is around you, especially close family and friends. Even Jesus had to deal with this negativity as we read in Matthew 13:53-58. When coming to His hometown of Nazareth, Jesus taught in the synagogue, and in verse 54, it says that the people were amazed. Verse 54 continues with the people asking, “Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works?”

In verse 55-56, they began to realize who Jesus was, “Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this Man get all these things? ” And in verse 57, they took offense at Him.

Your family may not take offense with you, but they will certainly think you're nuts to even consider that someone can be supernaturally healed at your command. You must block out this negativity and just believe in God’s faithful Word. The more you read over those Scriptures on whatever you are believing for, the more ingrained they will become in your being , and the more your body and soul, with its heart and mind, will be able to agree with the Holy Spirit. That is when this power and authority will begin to flow.

All the examples you will ever need are right at your finger tips in the Bible. If you do not have a Bible and cannot afford one at the present time, just click on this link, www.biblegateway.com, and you will have access to Bibles in multiple languages and translations.

I would encourage you to continue reading my teachings here, as they all revolve around the power and authority of the Holy Spirit and how you can utilize this power and authority within you life here and now. Many Christian denominations, preach that when you are saved, you only have to suffer through this life and then experience the fulfillment of your salvation. This cannot be further from the truth.

You can experience God’s best for you right now, if you would only have faith and believe!

My prayer is that you "choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the LORD your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days,” (Deuteronomy 30:19 ). Because God says, “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11).

Give your future hope, believe God’s truths and live in good health prosperity and rest in the shadow of the almighty!
